About Anne
Anne grew up in Santa Clara County where her mom retired from Hewlett Packard Inc. and her dad from Lockheed Martin. She graduated from Saint Francis High School in Mt. View.
After UCLA, Anne held the following positions in education:
- Teacher’s aide in Special Education for Beverly Hills School District
- Teacher for Sacred Heart & Santa Teresita in East Los Angeles
- Teacher, Department Head, and Campus Minister at Bellarmine Jefferson High School in Burbank
Anne missed where she grew up and wanted to raise her son in
Northern California; in 1993 she moved back to Santa Clara County. She has worked for California Sports Center since 1999 as an instructor, movement specialist, and manager. She has presented workshops on the importance of movement in education, conflict resolution, creating personal and professional mission statements, and being a highly effective teacher. As a manager, she has hired hundreds of high school and college students, giving many of them their first job. Because of the work she has done with hiring youth, she was asked to be on the Campbell Union High School District Work Experience Program Advisory Board. In the summers of 2017, 2018 and 2019 she took on interns through the STRIVE Program.
Her first husband passed away in 2004. Having been a single mother and widow, she understands the struggles of supporting for a family both financially and emotionally. Her son, Tyler, now 29, went to Saint Francis High School and competed in gymnastics for Springfield College in Massachusetts, where he was a 15-time All American and 3 time USAG Collegiate National Champion. He also competed on season 9 of American Ninja Warrior and currently coaches at California Sports Center.
In 2016 Anne married Kevin Souza who grew up in Campbell and graduated from Prospect High School. They met in a bowling league at Cambrian Bowl. Kevin works as an auto technician for Sunnyvale Ford. They live in Campbell Village, the newest annexed part of Campbell. She got involved with the Campbell Village Neighborhood Association and was elected to the board as communication/social media specialist.
In 2015, she was appointed to the Civic Improvement Commission. She worked with the Campbell Youth Commission to host 3 annual youth job fairs along with resume writing and interviewing workshops held beforehand. In its second year, the Campbell Youth Job Fair had 22 business and 152 students from 20 high schools attend. She started the Campbell Cares Campaign to bring Mental Health awareness and suicide prevention workshops to the Campbell Community. While on the commission, Anne has helped with the creation of Campbell’s Art policy, awarded grants for the beautification pilot program, prepped and sponsored boxes for the “Art outside the box,” and recommended grants for agencies that help with social services in Campbell. She has a special interest in the Campbell Library and loves getting the updates during the CIC meetings. One of her top priorities is for the Campbell Library to have an updated facility in order to help meet the needs of the 1000 visitors it serves each day.
Volunteering and being of service is something that was instilled by her parents. Anne currently serves as the Community VP for Junior League of San Jose working closely with their community partners Pivotal, The Hub, and Healthier Kids Foundation. Anne is working through JLSJ to change the outcomes of transitional age foster youth in the areas of education and careers.
Anne was appointed to the First Five Commission of Santa Clara County by District 4 County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg in June 2019. Through First 5 Anne is helping make a difference for our local children. It is important to her that there is an equal playing field for all kids. By addressing areas of education, health, and family support services at early ages, she believes the outcomes for success later on in a child’s life will be easier to achieve.
Here are some other organizations where Anne has spent her time volunteering: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Campbell CERT, Relay for Life, Juvenile Hall, Alateen, SCVAFG, Athletes and Entertainers for Kids, Lifeteen, Habitat for Humanity, Host Family for Youth for Understanding, West Valley Rotary Community Core and the Maclaren Center for children.
